The primary relationship

Part strategic advisor. Part executive coach. Focused on what will help you move.

Bring the consequential work: a growth goal, strategic choice, stalled initiative, cofounder conflict, leadership challenge, important partnership, or question about what you want next. I help you define the real issue, challenge the assumptions shaping it, and decide what to do.

I develop enough working knowledge of your company, business model, customers, competitors, and industry to engage the problem seriously. That may involve research, document review, operating information, customer evidence, and perspectives from other people in the company. I form a point of view, challenge assumptions, and recommend a course when the evidence and my judgment support one.

We may also need to examine your motivation, fear, courage, habits, or effect on the people around you. These often determine which choices become possible, which conversations occur, and whether the organization can carry the decision. You remain responsible for the final choice; my responsibility is to help make it substantially better informed and more likely to work.

The value of context

Over time I develop a working understanding of how the business creates value, the economics and assumptions shaping its choices, the people carrying the work, what has already been tried, and how you tend to lead under pressure. That continuity allows us to investigate problems more deeply, recognize recurring patterns earlier, and judge new decisions against the larger direction of the company.

What I pay attention to

I look at the business problem, the people involved, and your own role in what happens next.

A stalled priority may be a strategy problem, a communication problem, an accountability problem, or a decision you have not fully made. Often it is some combination.

I listen for where people are operating from different assumptions, where an avoided conversation is limiting progress, and where your own habits or expectations may be reinforcing the obstacle. Then we identify the decision, conversation, plan, or leadership change most likely to create movement.

What may bring you here

Leaders usually reach out when the stakes are high and progress is not good enough.

↗

You are facing a decision that could materially change the company.

A major hire, investment, partnership, sale, pivot, or expansion needs independent challenge before you commit.

↗

You have ambitious goals but execution keeps losing focus.

Priorities shift, momentum dissipates, or the team cannot translate the ambition into coordinated action.

↗

A cofounder or executive relationship is limiting progress.

Unresolved conflict, mistrust, or different visions are affecting decisions and the wider organization.

↗

You remain the bottleneck as the company grows.

Too much still depends on your judgment, approval, intervention, or ability to hold the whole picture.

↗

The strategy is clear to you but not producing ownership.

People have heard the direction but continue to make choices from different interpretations of it.

↗

Your current way of leading is no longer enough for the goal.

The next stage requires more courage, delegation, discipline, candor, or external influence than you have been bringing consistently.

How the relationship works

A consistent working relationship that stays connected to the live demands of leadership.

01

Define the goal and the obstacle

We begin with what you are trying to accomplish, why it matters, what has already been tried, and what is currently preventing progress.

02

Set cadence and scope

We establish a recurring meeting rhythm, identify which live decisions and situations belong in the work, and agree on how we will judge whether the relationship is producing useful progress.

03

Work on real decisions and situations

Bring plans, communications, negotiations, relationships, results, and difficult choices. We turn the conversation into a practical next move.

04

Review and adjust

We periodically review what has changed, where progress is visible, and whether the relationship is addressing the goals that matter most.

What the work can produce

The aim is stronger leadership and visible progress in the business.

  • Clearer goals and renewed connection to why they matter
  • Faster, better-supported decisions on consequential issues
  • Direct conversations that resolve conflict and unblock coordination
  • Clearer priorities and more consistent execution
  • Stronger ownership and accountability across the leadership team
  • Plans and operating practices that support the strategy
  • More attention available for growth, customers, partnerships, and the impact you want to have

When a wider view is needed

The one-to-one relationship can expand to include the organization.

Focused organizational inquiry

Strategic Diagnostic

When your account is only one part of the picture, I can interview key people, observe meetings, and review the plans and information shaping decisions.

The result is a written or visual synthesis of the patterns I observe, likely contributing factors, and the conversations or decisions that appear most useful next.

Designed team process

Strategy and Leadership Offsites

When progress requires the leadership team to build the answer together, I design an offsite or working session around the company's actual moment.

The session is designed to help the group develop a shared understanding, make choices about priorities and tradeoffs, and create a plan with clearer ownership and sequence.

Diagnostics, interviews, and full-team sessions are scoped separately when they will materially help the work move.

Who this is for

Ambitious leaders who want both honest challenge and practical movement.

You care deeply about what you are building and want an independent partner who can work with both the business challenge and the person leading through it.

I work primarily with founders, entrepreneurs, and executives of established businesses who have enough authority to act on what we uncover. I am based in Boulder and work with leaders across Colorado and beyond.

What important goal, decision, or obstacle needs stronger support than it is getting now?

Tell me what you are trying to accomplish, what is getting in the way, and why it matters. We can decide whether an ongoing strategic relationship would help you move it forward.
